2006 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair a crankshaft seal on 2006 Toyota Solara?
A: The repair process for the crankshaft main bearing seal begins with disconnecting the automatic or manual transaxle following engine-transaxle assembly removal. The A/T repair requires the removal of drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly by employing Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) to secure the crankshaft before disassembly of 8 bolts and subsequent separation of the rear spacer, drive plate, and front spacer. To inspect or replace the M/T components you must first install the crankshaft fixer and afterward take out the 8 bolts together with rear spacer and flywheel sub-assembly. Cut through the lip of the oil seal with a knife and stick-tape a screwdriver tip to pull it out with a screwdriver. Use 400-grit sandpaper to smooth the crankshaft surface if removal indicates any damage. To install the new oil seal begin by smearing MP grease onto its lip then apply Special Service Tool: 09223-15030, 09950-70010 (09951-07100) together with a hammer to strike the oil seal until its rear edge equals the retainer lip while removing all residual grease from the crankshaft. Install the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly (A/T) by utilizing Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) to fix the crankshaft and then apply adhesive (Part No. 08833-00070, THREE BOND or equivalent to 2 or 3 threads of the bolt end before installing the front spacer, drive plate, and rear spacer with 8 bolts at 98 Nm (1,000 kgf-cm, 72 ft. lbs.) torque. The flywheel sub-assembly installation requires fixing the crankshaft before cleaning both bolt and bolt hole followed by adhesive application to 2 or 3 bolt thread ends. Use 8 bolts to secure the flywheel with uniform torque at 130 Nm (1,330 kgf-cm, 96 ft. lbs.). After engine assembly with transaxle you must install clutch disc assembly and clutch cover assembly and the suitable transaxle assembly depending upon whether it is A/T or M/T.
