2006 Toyota Prius ABS Control Module Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module for Antilock Brakes on 2006 Toyota Prius?
A: The replacement of both the actuator and the resistor in the Hydraulic Control Assembly for Antilock Brakes must be done at once to prevent motor noise increase. The windshield wiper motor and link must be removed before performing "ZERO DOWN" accumulator pressure sequence that entails shifting into P position, engaging the parking brake, establishing intelligent tester connection to DLC3 while powering up the system with ON (IG) mode, and selecting "ZERO DOWN" on the tester while maintaining fluid above "LOW" mark. Begin removal by switching off the brake control (ECB) followed by extracting the No. 1 and No. 2 motor relays before taking off the outer front cowl top pane together with the inverter with converter. The brake fluid requires draining before disconnecting the water pump motor assembly with its bracket while removing both connector and hardware clamps. To remove the brake actuator with bracket start by disconnecting its connector and hoses and using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to disconnect the brake tubes before final brake actuator removal. The procedure for installation requires that you torque the No. 2 brake actuator bracket to 18 N.m followed by installing the brake actuator to the gusset using 7.5 N.m torque before applying specified torque values and proper tightening order to all components. After water pump and inverter installation the technician will proceed to place the outer front cowl top panel and windshield wiper motor. After removing the instrument panel you should extract the brake actuator resistor before installing a new one using 5.0 N.m torque. The brake system requires brake fluid in the reservoir followed by air clearing from the brake actuator before analyzing fluid leaks, determining fluid level while checking and clearing DTC followed by performing initialization and completing Active Test procedures.
