2006 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch for the computer on 2006 Toyota Prius?
A: The service procedure for the Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch requires removal of the radiator support opening cover before flashing both engine under covers on the left and right sides. The first procedure should drain the engine coolant together with HV coolant before disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable for at least 90 seconds to stop Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Start by taking out the inverter with converter and disconnecting the sensor connector before putting a 19 mm deep socket wrench to remove both sensor and gasket. Apply the 19 mm deep socket wrench to mount a new gasket and sensor followed by sensor torque up to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) before reconnecting the sensor connector. The inverter with converter installation needs to follow the reconnection of the negative battery terminal cable before adding both engine and HV coolant to the system. Inspect leakages within the engine coolant and HV coolant systems before putting back the engine under covers and radiator support opening cover. Execute initialization steps on particular systems which need this process after negative battery terminal cable removal and reattachment.
