How to service the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor on Toyota Prius?

A technician should start the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor maintenance by taking off the Radiator Support Opening Cover and Engine Under Cover LH together with the Engine Under Cover RH. The battery cable needs removal while waiting for at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation before draining engine coolant and HV coolant. First uninstall the Inverter with Converter before moving to sensor connector separation and applying the 19 mm deep socket wrench to remove the sensor together with its gasket. The installation process requires a 19 mm deep socket wrench to install a new gasket and sensor which should be tightened to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque value before reconnecting the sensor connector. Reinstall the Inverter with Converter while reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal and add both engine coolant and HV coolant to the system. After checking both systems for any leakage you should put back the Engine Under Cover RH and Engine Under Cover LH together with the Radiator Support Opening Cover. When reattaching the negative battery terminal some systems need initialization procedures to be performed.
