The Toyota Prius TPS is a very important part that helps to boost the efficiency and durability of the Toyota Prius models. Well known for its fine tune in the control of the air fuel mixture, the TPS feed real time data to the engine control unit (ECU) concerning the throttle position. One of the uses of this feedback mechanism is to supply fuel equally to the engine hence accelerating and decelerating in the most efficient and safest way for the Toyota Prius. New generation of Toyota Prius integrates non-contact TPS systems and applications like Hall effect and magnetoresistive which give better performance than potentiometric type. This spurs performance but it also helps to extend the general life of the vehicle as well. The Toyota Prius Throttle Position Sensor available for different models of the Prius, which will allow drivers efficiently use all the advantages of the car. Further, related Throttle Position Sensor operates combinably with other accelerator pedal sensors to improve the engine efficiency at least in the electronic throttle control system. The most popular car all over the world, the Toyota Prius, is famous for its environmental friendliness, consequent advanced technologies and components such as multiple driving modes. Due to the Toyota Company's focus on reliability and performance, the Throttle Position Sensor occupies a significant position in the automotive market and strengthens the image of the Toyota Prius as the leader among the hybrids.

Toyota Prius Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the throttle position sensor on Toyota Prius?
    A:
The replacement process for the throttle position sensor begins by unscrewing the 2 set screws followed by sensor removal before sensor installation which requires the throttle valve at an opening angle of 3.5 degrees and sensor positioning 150 degrees right from the specification with counterclockwise shaft rotation until touch is achieved followed by set screw torque. Starting from 150 degrees right of the designated position the sensor needs to be turned counterclockwise slowly until it contacts the throttle valve shaft before temporarily tightening the set screws. The first step involves connecting only the throttle position sensor connector and plugging the Toyota hand-held tester to DLC3 followed by turning ON the ignition without pressing the accelerator pedal. Adjust the sensor so that the current data shows the standard throttle valve opening percentage at its center position before torquing the screws to 1.7 N.m (17.5 kgf.cm, 15 in.lbf) while maintaining a standard valve opening percentage of 14.8 plus or minus 0.8%. Check the sensor position and throttle valve opening percentage of 10 - 14% through use of a screwdriver to close the valve fully after assembly. Repetition of the adjustment steps is necessary if the achieved percentage differs from the specified value. As the last step paint the sensor set screws and turn the ignition switch OFF followed by disconnecting the Toyota hand-held tester from the DLC3 and removing the throttle position sensor connector.
