2005 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT on 2005 Toyota Tundra?
A: First position the lower ball joint of the FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT by lifting the upper suspension arm together with the steering knuckle. Afterward install the four bolts temporarily. The lower ball joint installation involves securing it to the lower suspension arm by using the set nut and new cotter pin while applying torque of 140 Nm (1,450 kgf-cm, 103 ft. lbs.). An extra 60 degrees of torque should be added when the holes on the cotter pin are misaligned. The procedure continues by fastening the tie rod end to the lower ball joint while using a new cotter pin and tightening the nut to 91 Nm (930 kgf-cm, 67 ft. lbs.) strength. If the holes on the cotter pin are misaligned the nut should be tightened by an additional 60 degrees. Follow by securing the four lower ball joint bolts to 80 Nm torque (820 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.) then set the front wheel using 110 Nm torque (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). Alignment checking should be the last step.
