2001 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Sway Bar Kit on 2001 Toyota Celica?
A: The sway bar kit servicing requires removing the sway bar links which need the 2 nuts and the sway bar link to be taken off while applying a torque of 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). The wire stud requires stabilization through the use of a hexagon (5 mm) wrench because the ball joint moves together with the nut. Follow the same steps to service the alternative side. Start the repair by removing the front suspension member with lower suspension arm and then proceed to the sway bar kit by detaching its two bolts and removing the bracket and bushing with a torque of 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). When installing the bushing, orient the cutout section towards the buckling bar tail and position it externally to the marking line before you undertake the same steps on the second side and unbolt the buckling bar. When inspecting the ball joint on sway bar links before fastening the nut inspect for proper rotational motion by moving the ball joint stud five times forward and backward. Achieve a turning torque measurement of 0.05 - 1.0 Nm (0.5 - 10 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 8.7 inch lbs.) by rotating the nut using a torque wrench at a speed of 2 - 4 seconds per turn and stop the measurement on the 5th turn. To finish the installation process follow the reverse procedure of removal then assess the front wheel alignment.
