2000 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Sway Bar Kit on 2000 Toyota Celica?
A: The sway bar linking process starts with unfastening the sway bar link and its two nuts then tightening the bolts to 44 Nm (449 kgf.cm, 32 ft. lbs). A hexagon-shaped 5 mm wrench should be used to stabilize the stud when its ball joint turns with the nut. Continue the same step on the bar side. The service begins with separating the front suspension member with the lower suspension arm before proceeding to the sway bar kit removal task requiring two bolt removal along with bracket and bushing using a 19 Nm (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft. lbs.) torque. When installing the sway bar bushing place it so the cutout faces toward the rear part and stays beyond the painted area. Proceed to remove the sway bar kit at the opposite side after completing the same procedures. When inspecting the ball joint of the sway bar link you should move the ball joint stud five times before installing the nut. Proceed with torque wrench operation until the 5th turn occurs while constantly rotating the nut at a rate between 2 - 4 seconds each turn. Measure the torque reading during this stage with a target of 0.05 - 1.0 Nm (0.5 - 10 kgf.cm, 0.4 - 8.7 inch lbs.). The installation procedure is the opposite of removal and front wheel alignment must be checked after completion.
