Q: How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on 2000 Toyota Celica?
A: Drivers should start suspension strut service by uninstalling the front wheel while maintaining a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The ABS speed sensor wire harness clamps must be disconnected from the shock absorber through removal of the bolt with 8.0 Nm (82 kgf.cm, 71 inch lbs.) torque. The shock absorber bracket receives the flexible hose through a bolt removal step that requires 19 Nm (192 kgf.cm, 14 ft. lbs.) torque. Apply a 5 mm Hexagon wrench to support the stud before you remove the nut with a torque of 44 Nm which is equivalent to 449 kgf.cm or 32 ft. lbs and proceed with disconnecting the stabilizer bar link. To begin working on the shock absorber with coil spring start by loosening its two lower side nuts using a torque of 153 Nm (1,560 kgf.cm, 113 ft. lbs) but do not detach the 2 bolts. Proceed to remove first the 3 nuts on the shock absorber upper side using 39 Nm of torque force (400 kgf.cm at 29 ft. lbs.) then proceed to take off the nuts and bolts on the lower side. Engine oil should be applied on the nut threads before adding it to the installation process. The shock absorber with coil spring must be removed last. Follow the opposite sequence of uninstallation for shock absorber installation then inspect the front wheel alignment after setup.
