    Q:
How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on Toyota Celica? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service the suspension strut by first removing the front wheel while torquing the fastener to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). You must disconnect the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamps from the shock absorber by removing its bolt under 8.0 Nm torque (82 kgf-cm or 71 inch lbs.). Next you must disconnect the flexible hose from the shock absorber bracket by applying torque of 19 Nm (192 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) to remove the bolt. The stabilizer bar link separation from the shock absorber requires removal of a nut adjusted to 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.) torque while the use of a 5 mm hexagon wrench becomes necessary to secure the stud when the ball joint rotates with the nut. Begin work on the shock absorber with coil spring by first loosening its lower side nuts to 153 Nm (1,560 kgf-cm, 113 ft. lbs.), yet keep the two bolts intact. To begin you should unscrew the 3 nuts positioned on the shock absorber upper section at 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.) torque before proceeding to remove both lower nuts and bolts. The installation process requires users to apply engine oil on the nut threads before tightening them. To finish the installation you must first install the shock absorber that includes the coil spring starting from the reverse position of removal and then check the front wheel alignment afterward.
