Toyota Matrix Ball Joint Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove the front lower ball joint on Toyota Matrix?
A: You should start front lower ball joint removal by taking off both front wheels and front Axle Shaft nuts specific to 2AZ-FE and 2ZR-FE models. The front Speed Sensor removal starts with unclamping and bolt removal to separate it from both front Shock Absorber and Steering Knuckle while maintaining a clean environment around the sensor tip along with a correct angle position. The next step requires dividing the front disc brake caliper assembly while extracting the front disc followed by disconnecting the tie rod end sub-assembly for both 2WD and 4WD systems. The front lower suspension arm separation starts when you remove the bolt and two nuts followed by front axle assembly removal. Secure the front axle assembly in a vise without stretching its parts then remove the cotter pin and nut. Using Special Service Tool 09960-20010 extend it to the front lower ball joint so it creates a 1 mm (0.0394 inch) gap between the tool and front axle assembly. To disconnect the front lower ball joint from the front axle assembly use Special Service Tools: 09960-20010 and 09961-02010 equipped with grease at their threads and end of tool bolt. Orient tool A and B to parallel positions and place wrench on the indicated part to safeguard the front lower ball joint dust cover.
