2009 Toyota Sienna Knock Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the knock sensor on 2009 Toyota Sienna?
A: The first step to remove the knock sensor from 2GR-FE engine control system requires fuel system pressure discharge. The first step requires removal of the V-bank cover sub-assembly before draining engine coolant and uninstalling the windshield wiper motor assembly. The next step involves removing the front outer cowl top panel sub-assembly together with the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and the air cleaner case sub-assembly. Begin intake air surge tank assembly removal by disconnecting the 2 water by-pass hoses from the throttle body followed by separate disconnection of the vapor feed hose then the throttle body connector and clamp before taking off the ventilation hose and the union to check valve hose and connector. A 5 mm socket hexagon wrench should be used to remove the 4 bolts followed by taking off the 2 nuts, 2 bolts, and the intake air surge tank. Remove the gasket from the intake air surge tank afterward. Following that step remove the fuel main tube sub-assembly together with the intake manifold. To finish the procedure disconnect the 2 knock sensor connectors while using a 10 mm socket to remove the 2 bolts before pulling out both knock control sensors.
