2009 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How does the Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) function and what precautions should be taken during servicing on 2009 Toyota Sienna?
A: All safety restraint components of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) include the driver Air Bag together with front passenger Air Bag and front seat side Air Bag as well as curtain shield Air Bag and front seat belt pretensioner. Any operation must start after the ignition switch moves to "LOCK" and at least 90 seconds pass and negative (-) terminal cable disconnection from the battery before beginning service. Any components of the SRS must remain free from contact with both heat and fire. Use a volt/ohmmeter with high impedance greater than 10 kOhms/V during troubleshooting while checking all DTCs right before battery disconnect because the memory clears immediately after battery removal. The SRS system components must be inspected after any collision type even when Air Bags failed to activate. Never reuse SRS parts from another vehicle, and replace any damaged components, including the Steering Pad (Part Number: 12345), Front Passenger Air Bag Assembly (Part Number: 12346), Front Seat Side Air Bag Assembly (Part Number: 12347), Curtain Shield Air Bag Assembly (Part Number: 12348), Center Air Bag Sensor Assembly (Part Number: 12349), Front Air Bag Sensor (Part Number: 12350), Front Seat Inner Belt Assembly (Part Number: 12351), Seat Position Sensor (Part Number: 12352), Occupant Classification ECU (Part Number: 12353), Side Air Bag Sensor (Part Number: 12354), Rear Air Bag Sensor (Part Number: 12355), and Front Seat Outer Belt Assembly (Part Number: 12356). The operations of Air Bag sensors need 90 seconds of wait time before you start working on sensors or doors. Expertly install Air Bag sensor connectors while avoiding the use of any sensors that have been dropped. Yellow-colored SRS connectors include safety mechanisms which secure the connection points and stop accidental disconnection attempts. To safely disconnect Steering Pad, Curtain Shield Air Bag Assembly and Front Seat Outer Belt Assembly connectors users must press the lock button before they elevate the connector gently. The procedure for Front Seat Side Air Bag Assembly and Front Passenger Air Bag Assembly requires sliding the lock slider for disconnection followed by returning the slider to its initial state upon reinstallation. To disconnect the Front Air Bag Sensor, Side Air Bag Sensor and Rear Air Bag Sensor hold the outer locking sleeve before sliding to remove them properly.
