2009 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and replace the rear shock absorber with coil spring on 2009 Toyota Avalon?
A: The replacement of a rear shock absorber with coil spring requires first removing the rear seat cushion assembly then detaching the rear seat headrest plate cover LH and rear seat headrest assembly before finally removing the rear seatback assembly. To start the process begin by taking off the rear wheel while using a jack to securely support the rear axle carrier. When working on the rear stabilizer link assembly LH it is necessary to separate the components by first removing the nut then disconnecting the stabilizer link from the shock absorber while using a hexagon wrench (5 mm) to maintain the stud when the ball joint moves with the nut removal. The shock absorber receives two bolts removal for flexible hose detachment which allows separation of the flexible hose and skid control sensor wire. Keep the 2 shock absorber lower nuts slightly loose without taking out the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. You should remove the rear suspension support No. 1 cover LH but keep the LH support suspension center nut loose instead of removing it because shock absorber disassembly is not necessary. The shock absorber removal process requires first lowering the rear axle carrier by removing its 3 nuts followed by taking out the shock absorber with coil spring by removing its 2 nuts and 2 bolts on the lower side.
