2008 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove the rear shock absorber with coil spring on 2008 Toyota Avalon?
A: The procedure to remove the rear shock absorber with coil spring starts with the removal of the rear seat cushion assembly then continues to the rear seat headrest plate cover LH and rear seat headrest assembly and the rear seatback assembly. First remove the rear wheel then use a jack for securing the front axle carrier. The process begins by unpacking the nut and removing the shock absorber stabilizer link from its position. Usage of a 5 mm hexagon wrench becomes necessary to stabilize the stud whenever the ball joint spins while using the nut. The shock absorber maintenance continues with the second step of hose flexible removal through its two bolts using a combination of torque wrenches to separate both the flexible hose and skid control sensor wire. The technician should loosen the two shock absorber nuts located at its lower section. However, the technician should not remove the two bolts or two nuts. Loosen the LH support suspension center nut while keeping it installed unless the shock absorber will get fully disassembled. You must first detach the 3 nuts then lower the rear axle carrier before using the last step to remove the shock absorber with coil spring by taking out the 2 bolts and 2 nuts from the lower shock absorber side.
