2008 Toyota Yaris Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the exhaust pipe assembly on 2008 Toyota Yaris?
A: Install the tail section by using two Hatchback-requisite No. 4 exhaust pipe supports then three Sedan-required No. 4 exhaust pipe supports; ensure each support properly fits onto the pipe retaining support. The minimum accepted specification for the front exhaust compression spring free length measurement through vernier calipers stands at 40.5 mm (1.594 in.) for the front side and 38.5 mm (1.516 in.) for the rear side. Replacement of the spring becomes necessary when these measurements are not met. A plastic hammer and wooden block should be used to drive a new exhaust pipe gasket until it becomes fully flush with the exhaust manifold after confirming the proper direction of installation while avoiding outer surface damage. Reusing the gasket or pushing it in with the exhaust pipe during connection is strictly prohibited. The repair requires installation of 3 No. 4 exhaust pipe supports then the exhaust front pipe assembly using a new exhaust pipe gasket alongside 4 compression springs and 4 bolts which must be tightened to 43 Nm (439 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf). A second check of the No. 4 exhaust pipe supports should follow. Proceed to install the heated oxygen sensor, the instrument pad lower LH for the Sedan, the rear console box assembly, the console box carpet, the console box rear cover for the Hatchback, the console upper rear panel sub-assembly for the Sedan, the shifting hole cover sub-assembly for the Hatchback Manual Transaxle, the upper console panel sub-assembly for the Sedan, the shift lever knob sub-assembly for the Manual Transaxle, the instrument panel finish panel end LH for the Sedan, and the instrument panel finish panel lower center for the Sedan. The negative terminal battery cable requires a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) for connection before checking for exhaust gas leakage.
