2009 Toyota Yaris Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the exhaust pipe assembly on 2009 Toyota Yaris?
A: First secure the tail section by attaching either 2 or 3 sets of No. 4 exhaust pipe supports according to Hatchback or Sedan models while placing the No. 4 supports correctly onto the pipe retaining support. Vernier calipers should be used to measure the compression spring free length for the front exhaust pipe assembly but keep minimum lengths at 40.5 mm (1.594 in.) for the front side and 38.5 mm (1.516 in.) for the rear side. Replace the compression spring if these length specifications are not met. Use a plastic hammer with a wooden block to tap in an exhaust pipe gasket until it reaches exhaust manifold height, while installing it properly with the correct orientation to avoid damage and using it again. Also prevent stripping the gasket while attaching the exhaust pipe. Proceed with installing the 3 No. 4 exhaust pipe supports and after that attach the exhaust front pipe assembly with a new exhaust pipe gasket and 4 compression springs and 4 bolts that require a torque setting of 43 Nm (439 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf) before double-checking the No. 4 exhaust pipe supports. Proceed to install the heated oxygen sensor, the lower LH instrument pad for the Sedan, the rear console box assembly, the console box carpet, the console box rear cover for the Hatchback, the upper rear panel sub-assembly for the Sedan, the shifting hole cover sub-assembly for the Hatchback Manual Transaxle, the upper console panel sub-assembly for the Sedan, the shift lever knob sub-assembly for the Manual Transaxle, the instrument panel finish panel end LH for the Sedan, and the instrument panel finish panel lower center for the Sedan. Use a 5.4 Nm torque to attach the cable to the negative battery terminal before inspecting for exhaust gas leakage.
