How to remove and replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2008 Toyota Yaris?

The procedure for ECM replacement of the 1NZ-FE engine requires a definite action of disconnecting the negative terminal cable from the battery. The front wiper arm head caps must be removed before the front wiper arms with blades from the left and right sides for Hatchback and Sedan vehicles. For Hatchback models remove first the hood to cowl top seal followed by Sedan models which need cowl side ventilator sub-assemblies removed. Detach the cowl top ventilator louver followed by the windshield wiper motor and link on both Hatchback and Sedan models. To access the Hatchback cowl to register duct sub-assembly No. 2 you should remove the cowl while Sedan owners must disengage their 3 claws to remove the front air shutter seal. Both Hatchback and Sedan owners must detach their wire harnesses before removing all bolts securing the cowl top panel outer for their model. Mounting the ECM requires removal of lock knobs and harness clamp followed by disconnecting the connectors and unfastening the bolt and nuts. The task ends with the removal of ECM bracket and ECM bracket No. 2 after unscrewing both parts.
