2008 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you install the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2008 Toyota Tundra?
A: The installation process for Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring begins with steering sensor installation by appropriately placing pins on the clock spring into the steering sensor holes. Following this, attach six claws to secure the clock spring. Position the front wheels in a straight-ahead direction then set the turn signal switch to neutral position until you finish installing the pin to avoid breakage. The installation of the clock spring includes clamping down the 3 claws while connecting the connectors between the steering sensor and clock spring with great attention to maintaining the Air Bag wire harness in a safe condition. The next step requires installation of steering column covers starting with the upper section followed by the lower one. Use this procedure to adjust the clock spring when you disconnect the battery negative terminal for at least 90 seconds to stop Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. The clock spring needs to be turned counter-clockwise slowly to reach firmness while rotating clockwise twice to align the marks without rotating the cable near the Air Bag wire harness. Place and connect the steering wheel assembly beside the steering pad and both lower steering wheel covers. Check the negative battery terminal before cable connection while initialization of some systems might be necessary after reconnection followed by pads and warning light checks.
