Start repair of the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring by disconnecting the battery negative terminal after you ensure the front wheels remain aligned with a straight position. Proceed to remove the steering wheel cover lower No.2 and No.3 gradually before separating the horn button assembly and steering wheel assembly using Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 consisting of parts (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021). The clock spring sub-assembly needs to be detached from its connectors by using caution to prevent Air Bag wire harness damage and breaking the 3 claws that secure it. Replacement of the clock spring sub-assembly is necessary when visual inspection reveals scratches or cracks or dents or chips. Installation of the new clock spring sub-assembly requires front wheel straightness and neutral turn signal switch position to prevent snapping the pin. Frequently check the Air Bag connector while you install connectors to the clock spring sub-assembly by removing the lock pin first. Testing must begin only after the power switch is off and the negative terminal is removed from the battery to wait for at least 90 seconds before any operation. Leverage the clock spring sub-assembly to turn counterclockwise until it stops then rotate it clockwise twice to reach alignment between the marks. The installation process starts with the steering wheel assembly followed by a check of the center steering wheel location until completion with the installation of the horn button assembly. After reconnecting the negative terminal follow the initialization instructions then inspect the horn button together with the SRS warning light.

The last step involves reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal but be aware that some systems might need an initialization following reconnection process before inspecting the steering pad and checking the SRS warning light for appropriate operation.

Center the spiral cable by turning it counterclockwise until it locks, then turn it 2.5 times clockwise from the locked position to align the center marks.

Engage the 3 claws to install the spiral cable with the steering angle sensor, and remember to remove the lock pin if replacing the spiral cable.

Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) and inspect the SRS warning light.

Install using the 3 claws and connect the necessary connectors while being cautious with the airbag wire harness.

Rotate the spiral cable counterclockwise slowly until firm, then clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks, ensuring not to turn it by the airbag wire harness.

Install the steering wheel assembly, steering pad, and lower No. 3 and No. 2 steering wheel covers.

Inspect the spiral cable sub-assembly for any scratches, cracks, dents, or chips, and replace it if any of these conditions are present.

Read the precautions thoroughly.

Remove the steering column cover.

Attach the 4 clips to the upper column cover and install the upper steering column cover.

Install the steering wheel assembly, steering pad, lower No. 3 steering wheel cover, and lower No. 2 steering wheel cover, then connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.

Take out the center instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly, lower instrument panel finish panel assembly, shift lever knob sub-assembly (for both manual and automatic transaxles), and the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly (for both manual and automatic transaxles).

Install the steering wheel assembly, the steering pad assembly, reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal, inspect the steering pad assembly, check the SRS warning light, and inspect the steering wheel position.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait at least 90 seconds to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.

Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal and inspect the steering pad assembly.

Install the steering column cover.

Position the spiral cable by slowly rotating it counterclockwise until firm, then clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks, avoiding the use of the airbag wire harness for turning.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait at least 90 seconds to prevent airbag deployment.

Disengage the 3 claws to remove the spiral cable sub-assembly.

Reconnect the airbag connector and install the steering column cover with three screws.

Install the steering wheel assembly, steering pad, and both lower steering wheel covers.

Ensure the ignition switch is OFF and the negative battery terminal is disconnected, then wait 90 seconds.

Attach the 3 claws and connect the connectors to the spiral cable with steering sensor, being cautious with the airbag wire harness.

Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a torque of 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf).

Remove the No.2 and No.3 lower steering wheel covers, the steering pad, and the steering wheel assembly.

Ensure the ignition switch is OFF and the negative battery terminal is disconnected for 90 seconds, then turn the cable counterclockwise until resistance is felt, followed by turning it clockwise about 2.5 turns to align the marks.

Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable with steering sensor, taking care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
