2009 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2009 Toyota Tundra?
A: The first step to remove the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring requires disconnecting the negative battery cable for at least 90 seconds to prevent Air Bag systems activation. Before disconnecting the cable the ignition switch should be turned off while the navigation system requires 90 seconds to save memory and system settings. Start by straightening the front wheels before taking off lower No. 3 steering wheel cover then lower No. 2 steering wheel cover and finally removing the steering pad. Secondly separate the assembly of your steering wheel while removing the lower steering column cover and the upper steering column cover. The operation to extract the clock spring requires disconnecting its connectors from the steering sensor while maintaining safety of the Air Bag wire harness. The 3 claws need to be detached in order to withdraw the clock spring with steering sensor from its position and then the 6 claws must be detached to remove the steering sensor itself.
