2007 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you service the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2007 Toyota Tundra?
A: Started service of the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring by disconnecting the negative battery cable while waiting for a minimum of ninety seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Keep the front wheels straight ahead before you detach the succession of wheel components starting with the lower No.3 steering wheel cover followed by lower No.2 steering wheel cover and then moving onto steering pad then steering wheel assembly after which lower steering column cover and upper steering column cover follow. Unfasten the connectors from the clock spring with steering sensor and disconnect it carefully while keeping away from the Air Bag wire harness before pulling off the 3 claws to remove the clock spring. The following step involves removing the steering sensor after unclipping its 6 claws. Begin installation of the steering sensor by connecting the pins from the clock spring into the installation holes on the sensor before securing it with six claws. Steer the front wheels into a straight position before switching off the turn signal switch to prevent snapping of the pin. Attach the 3 claws to install the clock spring and connect its connectors to the steering sensor cable while maintaining careful handling of the Air Bag wire harness. Connect the upper and lower steering column covers while adjusting the clock spring when the ignition switch is OFF and battery negative terminal disconnected. Wait 90 seconds before turning the clock spring counterclockwise for firmness followed by a clockwise rotation of approximately 2.5 turns to match the marks. Complete the installation by adding the steering wheel assembly followed by the steering pad and lower No.3 then lower No.2 steering wheel covers and reestablish power to the negative battery terminal before system initialization if required. After checking the SRS warning light testers inspect the steering pad system as well.
