2008 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove a Vapor Canister for Service and Repair on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: The removal process for Evaporative Emission Control Canister requires you to drain the fuel system pressure first. First remove the rear No. 2 floor board and then proceed to remove the rear deck floor box and rear No. 3 floor board. When disconnecting the negative terminal cable you must wait at least 90 seconds before proceeding to avoid Air Bag system and seat belt pretensioner activation. When performing the Evaporative Emission Control Canister removal process start by taking off the lower center instrument panel finish panel and the rear seat cushion assembly and the rear floor service hole cover. The service requires removing the front floor panel brace and the front exhaust pipe and the complete fuel tank sub-assembly. The fuel tank vent hose along with the canister hose requires removal of clamps before detaching the front fuel tank main tube from the tube linking the fuel tank to the canister. Begin by disconnecting the canister pump module connector then unfasten the 2 bolts while removing the trap canister with pump module and the ground terminal of the fuel tank wire. Remove the gasket from the fuel tank and eliminate the two clamps from the trap canister with pump module. To separate the fuel tank vent hose from the trap canister with pump module you should pinch the retainer followed by pulling out the fuel tank vent connector while pushing the fuel tank vent hose connector towards the fuel tank vent hose side. The procedure requires proper cleaning for any foreign elements from the fuel tank vent hose before performing work and manual handling without tools is mandatory to prevent damage to components. You should never let tightness force the nylon tube or turn its direction and always secure the connecting parts with plastic after disconnecting the fuel tank vent hose. Press and pull the pipe and hose connector of the fuel tank ventilation system to free them.
