2009 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Vapor Canister on 2009 Toyota Prius?
A: The process begins with releasing the fuel system pressure before you proceed to unplug the Evaporative Emission Control Canister. Start by removing the rear No. 2 floor board and following it up with removal of the rear deck floor box and the rear No. 3 floor board. Unplug the battery terminal cable but let it wait for at least 90 seconds before proceeding to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. To begin the Evaporative Emission Control Canister removal process you should detach the lower center instrument panel finish panel and the rear seat cushion assembly followed by the rear floor service hole cover as well as the front floor panel brace and the front exhaust pipe and the fuel tank sub-assembly. To remove the trap canister with pump module first unclamp the fuel tank vent hose along with the canister hose then unclamp the tube of the fuel tank main tube followed by detaching the tube of the fuel tank to canister tube from its clamp. Detach the canister pump module connector before taking out two bolts to get the trap canister with pump module and removing the ground terminal wiring from the fuel tank. Remove the gasket from the fuel tank as well as the two clamps from the trap canister with pump module. To disconnect the fuel tank vent hose from the trap canister with pump module pinch the retainer then pull out the fuel tank vent connector while simultaneously pushing the fuel tank vent hose connector toward the fuel tank vent hose side. The fuel tank vent hose connector requires cleaning of foreign materials before work begins while avoiding contact with substances that may cause damage to parts and completing operations without tools and refraining from forced movements on the nylon tube and using a plastic bag for connecting part protection after disconnecting the fuel tank vent hose. The release of stuck fuel tank vent hose connector and pipe can be achieved by pushing and pulling.
