2008 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the TPMS Sensor correctly on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: The installation of the tire pressure warning valve requires inserting it into the valve installation hole from the rim's interior position where the printed surface should be detectable. Observe the transmitter for any shapes that deviate from normal and check that the inner grommet along with the area around the rim hole are free of foreign particles. The valve becomes damaged and loses speed signal transmission capability when put in the wrong direction. You must record the new tire pressure warning valve ID number before installing it because ECU registration will occur after installation. Fasten the washer onto the tire pressure monitor valve rim side while using the nut to reach 4.0 Nm (41 kgf-cm, 35 ft-lbf) torque and inspect for foreign materials on the washer and nut's surface. The tire pressure warning valve will require replacement in case it shows damage or contamination on the grommet when procedures call for its removal during tire replacement. The proper installation requires users to eliminate all traces of oil, water and lubricant from the rim hole, valve, washer and nut. Inflated tires require another valve nut torque check up to the specified limit followed by a leak inspection using soapy water. The wheel disc should be mounted on a mounting machine while the lower tire bead installation occurs with the valve sensor main body positioned inside the shaded region to avoid interference. Place the upper bead into position while making sure the tire bead and tool avoid entering the area containing the valve sensor. The front and rear wheels need to be tightened to 131 Nm (1,340 kgf-cm, 97 ft-lbf). Check the tire appearance while documenting the transmitter ID. The device requires an inspection of its tire pressure warning system as the last step.
