2009 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove the TPMS Sensor and Transmitter on 2009 Toyota Prius?
A: The first step for removing the Tire Pressure Warning Valve and Transmitter involves removing both front and rear wheels from the vehicle. The tire pressure warning valve sub-assembly requires removal through core and cap valve removal which allows tire air release. The tire pressure warning valve gets installed inside the tire after sufficiently releasing air pressure through removing its retaining nut and washer. Due to reinstallation requirements you should store the removed valve core and all other parts including the cap and nut along with the washer. Lower the tire pressure warning valve into the tire before you disengage the bead using the shoe of the tire remover but ensure to avoid tire pressure warning valve damage from the tire bead contact. Drop the upper tire bead while extracting the valve sensor from the tire and proceed to release the lower side bead. The inspection of the grommet should detect any signs of damage; immediate replacement of both the grommet and washer and nut is necessary when damage is discovered.
