2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the TPMS Sensor and Transmitter on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: Service and repair activities for Tire Pressure Warning Valve and Transmitter should start with wheel removal from both front and rear positions. Take off the valve core and cap to free the tire from pressure before you start removing its tire pressure warning valve sub-assembly. Insufficient air release must be verified before removing the nut and washer which secure the tire pressure warning valve while dropping its sensor inside the tire. Keep the removed cap and valve core and nut and washer attached for future use. Use the shoe of the tire remover to separate the bead while paying attention to avoid damaging the tire pressure warning valve through contact with the tire bead. When replacing the valve sensor remove both beads of the tire while inspecting the grommet for cracks. Install a new grommet if required as well as the washer and nut when necessary. Place the tire pressure warning valve into its respective valve installation hole by moving it from the inside of the rim while checking for both normal shape and absence of any foreign substances. The ID number obtained from a new tire pressure warning valve needs to be recorded for ECU registration purposes. Position the washer onto the monitor valve from the tire rim and fasten the nut tightly until it reaches 4.0 N m (41 kgf cm, 35 ft. lbf). Verify that no debris affects washer and nut alignment and check the grommet for presence of damage or pollutants. The tire valve nut must be retightened according to specified torque while testing for air leaks by using soapy water. The main body of the valve sensor should be placed in the correct position before installing the lower bead of the tire while avoiding any clamp formation during the upper bead installation. Install the wheels to their precise torque value of 131 N m (1,340 kgf cm, 97 ft. lbf) before examining the tire condition and entering the transmitter ID as well as inspecting the tire pressure warning system. Before discarding the system users need to separate the battery from the valve and sever the battery-terminal connections on the base board by first removing the rear housing and exposing the back components.
