2008 Toyota Highlander Air Bag Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove the rear Air Bag sensor on 2008 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first step before removing the rear Air Bag sensor requires studying all security warnings about servicing procedures. Disconnecting the negative battery cable should be followed by waiting 90 seconds before reconnection because some systems demand initialization steps after the battery cable is reattached. Start by taking off the rear scuff plate alongside the removal of rear door opening trim Weather Strip. You need to take off the deck board assembly followed by the removal of No. 3 deck board sub-assembly then No. 2 deck board sub-assembly together with the tonneau cover assembly (if applicable) and rear No. 1 floor board (if the vehicle does not have a rear No. 2 seat) as well as the rear seat side covers for both left-hand and right-hand sides (only if the vehicle has a rear No. 2 seat). Detach the side trim boxes from both sides of the vehicle deck alongside the rear mat and deck floor board assemblies (these come with and without rear No. 2 seat). Before proceeding further remove the rear No. 2 seat inner belt assembly then disconnect the rear seat lap type belt assemblies for each side and finally extract the rear No. 2 seat assembly. You must disassemble the rear floor finish plate together with rear seat side garnish caps which include both RH sides with or without rear air conditioning features. In addition, remove the deck side trim cover then separate the deck side trim and side trim covers from both LH and RH sides when rear seat entertainment or automatic air conditioning systems exist. Both sides of the vehicle require removal of their rear combination light service covers. The removal process also includes the LH side rear power point socket assembly with its cover, rear deck trim cover (if remote folding function is not installed), reclining remote control bezel (if present) and rope hook assembly, No. 2 deck side trim hook (sited at LH) and No. 1 luggage compartment trim hook (sited at RH), in addition to front deck side trim cover. The technician must first disconnect the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly before taking out the deck trim side panel assemblies from both sides of the vehicle. Disconnect the connector from the rear Air Bag sensor and ensure you maintain safety of the Air Bag wire harness until you completely remove the rear Air Bag sensor by disconnecting its bolt and pin.
