2009 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the center Air Bag sensor assembly on 2009 Toyota Highlander?
A: The installation of the center Air Bag sensor assembly requires first disconnecting the battery negative (-) cable and waiting at least 90 seconds for safety before resuming work to avoid Air Bag deployment. Use 3 bolting points to install the assembly while tightening bolts to 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf). A new center Air Bag sensor assembly must replace one that experienced drops or displays cracks, dents or any kind of defects. Before turning on the ignition after repair check that no one remains inside the vehicle while checking that both SRS wiring and parts remain free from pinching or constriction. Installers need to check for free components before joining connectors to the holder while safeguarding Air Bag wire harnesses and correctly adjusting the waterproof sheet. Proceed to install the front No. 2 console box insert, front No. 1 console box insert, console box assembly (with or without rear air conditioning system), lower rear console box, No. 2 console box duct (with or without rear air conditioning system), upper console panel sub-assembly, lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly (for manual or automatic air conditioning system), cowl side trim sub-assembly LH and RH, front door scuff plate LH and RH, lower instrument panel sub-assembly, No. 2 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly, and center instrument cluster finish panel assembly (with or without Smart Key System). Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal while keeping in mind that some systems need system initialization after reconnection and double-check SRS warning light status.
