2008 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2008 Toyota Avalon?
A: The installation of the 2GR-FE engine control system ECM requires you to connect the 4 screws that fasten the ECM brackets to their respective positions with a tightening torque of 3.0 Nm (31 kgf-cm, 27 in-lbf). Lever the 2 levers while ensuring the connectors remain clean from any contamination before installing them on the ECM. The body receives the ECM installation with 3 nuts that require 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf) torque. The installation order consists of the cowl top panel outer followed by the windshield wiper motor and link assembly and then the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly before both right and left windshield wiper arm and blade assemblies. Before cable connection to the negative terminal users should note that certain systems need to initialize after completing this procedure. You must register the ECM communication ID for the immobiliser system when replacing an ECM according to the Service Bulletin specifications. To complete initialization start by opening the ignition (IG) then operating the cruise control main switch while pressing the brake pedal and finally continue operation by pushing the cruise control main switch to RES/ACC three times within three seconds until the buzzer sounds. The correct function of the optical axis depends on avoiding use of the headlight dimmer switch during this procedure. If the wrong axis occurs by mistake, users must adjust it properly.
