2007 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Engine Control Module on 2007 Toyota Avalon?
A: The first step to remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) requires disconnecting the negative battery cable. Begin by taking out the front door scuff plate RH followed by the cowl side trim sub-assembly RH then the instrument panel under cover sub-assembly No.2 and finally the instrument panel finish lower panel RH. Begin by disconnecting all 5 connectors from the ECM followed by taking off the 2 nuts combined with bolt to remove the ECM and using the 2 screws to separate the ECM bracket from the ECM and the 2 screws to separate the ECM bracket No.2 from the ECM. The installation process begins with attaching the ECM bracket No.2 to the ECM while using two screws before connecting the ECM bracket with two screws and securing it with two nuts and bolt with a torque setting of 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf). Connect five connectors to the ECM before you reconnect the battery cable to its terminal. Reinstall all other mentioned components starting with glove compartment door assembly. System initialization should be performed since disconnecting the battery terminal might activate some systems. The ECM requires initialization by following this steps: On (IG) you should turn the ignition switch, then switch on cruise main, press RES/ACC on cruise control main switch three times within three seconds after stepping on the brake pedal. The buzzer must generate a sound. It is essential to not activate the headlight dimmer switch while performing this process since incorrect optical axis settings can result from it; however, in case of an accidental switch activation, optical axis needs adjustment.
