2007 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you service the Clock Spring Assembly and Spiral Cable on 2007 Toyota Avalon?
A: mitters before you commence Clock Spring Assembly and Clock Spring service procedures. Begin the battery terminal disconnection process by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal and wait for 90 seconds to prevent Air Bags from activating. The service starts by setting front wheels at a ninety-degree angle prior to removing steering wheel cover lower No.3 then No.2 followed by steering pad then assembly followed by steering column cover lower and steering column cover. Disconnect the connectors from the clock spring with great care for the Air Bag wire harness before unstabilizing the three cable claws to extract the clock spring. The service procedure starts with installing the steering angle sensor (w/ VSC) then moving onto the clock spring installation step which requires straight wheels and neutral turn signal control to prevent pin damage. Replace the clock spring by taking out the lock pin first while reattaching connectors after putting in the steering wheel assembly yet exercise caution when handling the Air Bag wire harness. Connect the steering wheel column then lower cover and set the clock spring after turning off the ignition and disconnecting the negative battery terminal for at least 90 seconds. Direct the clock spring to turn counterclockwise until tensive then apply clockwise torque to 2.5 of original position carefully keeping away from the Air Bag wire harness. Proceed with installing the steering wheel assembly followed by checking the steering wheel center point before you put in the steering pad together with the steering wheel cover lower No.2 and lower No.3. To conclude the process reconnect the negative battery cable while inspecting the steering pad part and complete system initialization that may be mandatory when a battery disconnect occurs and verify the SRS warning light functions correctly.
