2007 Toyota Avalon Knock Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the knock sensor on 2007 Toyota Avalon?
A: Service of the knock sensor starts by sealing off gasoline from spreading and disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable. The engine coolant drainage sequence includes removing the windshield wipers along with their motor and link assembly, cowl top panel outer and V-bank cover sub-assembly before moving on to the air cleaner cap, and connection to its air cleaner hose and intake air surge tank, and finally the intake manifold. The knock control sensor requires removal of its two connectors followed by dislodging two bolts while removing the two sensors. Begin by installing the 2 knock control sensors with their 2 bolts which need to be tightened to a torque value of 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). Then reconnect the 2 knock control sensor connectors. The sequence requires installation of intake manifold followed by intake air surge tank and air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose and adding the negative battery cable back to its terminal. Add engine coolant while inspecting both engine coolant and fuel system leakages. In the last step install the V-bank cover sub-assembly followed by the cowl top panel outer and the windshield wiper motor & link assembly, after system initialization test the throttle body function when needed.
