2006 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a Knock Sensor on 2006 Toyota Avalon?
A: Start by draining the engine coolant and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal before stopping gasoline from leakage. Start the procedure by removing the windshield wiper motor & link assembly and cowl top panel outer followed by V-bank cover sub-assembly and air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose and intake air surge tank and intake manifold. The second step involves disconnecting the pair of knock control sensor connectors before removing two knock control sensors and their corresponding two bolts. Fitting the new knock control sensors requires you to torque the 2 bolts to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) values while connecting the 2 knock control sensor connectors. The installation sequence requires the intake manifold and intake air surge tank along with air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose and the final step is connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal. The repair process involves adding engine coolant while inspecting for leakages in both the fuel and engine coolant systems. As the last step reinstall the V-bank cover sub-assembly, cowl top panel outer, windshield wiper motor & link assembly then perform system initializations after the battery disconnect and inspect throttle body operation.
