2005 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Knock Sensor on 2005 Toyota Avalon?
A: Begin the Knock Sensor replacement by stopping fuel leakage then disconnecting the negative battery cable before draining engine coolant. The repair procedure requires disconnection of windshield wiper motor & link assembly followed by cowl top panel outer and V-bank cover sub-assembly and air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose and intake air surge tank and intake manifold. Start by disconnecting the two knock control sensor connectors then take out both bolts and two sensors that hold the knock control sensor. Mount the new knock control sensors with the 2 bolts while tightening them to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) and then connect the 2 knock control sensor connectors. Reintegrate the intake manifold together with the intake air surge tank and air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose before connecting the negative battery cable. Additional engine coolant should be added while conducting leak tests on fuel systems as well as engine coolant systems. To complete the repairs install the V-bank cover sub-assembly together with cowl top panel outer and windshield wiper motor & link assembly. After disconnecting the battery terminal perform any required initialization processes then check the throttle body function.
