2009 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2009 Toyota Avalon?
A: The installation process for 2GR-FE engine control system ECM starts by attaching 4 ECM brackets with 3.0 Nm (31 kgf-cm, 27 in-lbf) torques then using 3 nuts to fix the ECM to the body also with 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf). Install the 2 ECM connectors while checking for any contamination between the connectors and other parts before securing the 2 levers. Install the ECM body using three nuts which should be torqued to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf). Install the cowl top panel outer then mount the windshield wiper motor and links followed by the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly and both right and left windshield wiper arm assemblies and blades. The cable must be connected to the negative battery terminal after completing these actions while some systems demand initialization during reconnection. The Service Bulletin requires the ECM communication ID registration for the immobiliser system when replacing the ECM. The initialization process begins with turning on the ignition switch (IG) and activating the cruise control main switch while depressing the brake pedal followed by pressing the cruise control main switch to RES/ACC three times within three seconds which produces buzzer sounds. The dimmer switch must not be enabled while conducting operations because incorrect optical axis configuration could occur so readjust the axis if the switch was accidentally turned on.
