2007 Toyota Yaris Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you service the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2007 Toyota Yaris?
A: The service process for the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring begins with first disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Removing the steering pad requires users to loosen "Torx" socket wrench T30 bolts then pull the pad forward until the locking button releases with a thin-bladed screwdriver so users can disconnect the 2 Air Bag connectors followed by detaching the horn connector. You must start the repair by taking out three screws which enable you to disconnect both upper and lower covers through claw disengagement. The horn connector must be detached before sliding the slider to separate the Air Bag connector while disengaging the 3 claws for clock spring extraction. Before installing this component users must disable the ignition switch while also keeping the battery terminal negative end disconnected for at least ninety seconds. The front tires need to be straight-ahead with the turn signal switch in neutral stand before applying the 3 claws to place the clock spring. When replacing the clock spring you must pull its lock pin before putting the steering wheel in place. Attach the Air Bag and horn connectors before inserting the steering column cover proper with its claws while tightening the three securing screws. Use counterclockwise rotation to lock the clock spring and perform 2.5 clockwise rotations to put its center marks in line. First install the steering wheel assembly with its steering pad while you link both horn and Air Bag connectors correctly based on color codes and stop the locking button from unlocking. Last step is to use a torque wrench to tighten the 2 bolts of the steering pad to 8.8 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 78 in.lbf) and fasten the cable to the negative battery terminal with 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). Complete the procedure by checking the SRS warning light.
