    Q:
How do you install the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on Toyota Yaris? Posted by Customer
    A:
The installation of Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring requires a complete shutdown of the ignition system and complete disconnection of the battery terminal followed by a minimum wait time of 90 seconds before commencement of work. The installation process must start by checking that both front tires show straight alignment and the turn signal switch needs to be set to neutral to prevent damage to the turn signal pin. The 3 claw mechanism helps mount the clock spring where pulling the lock pin allows installation of the steering wheel when replacing the clock spring. Connect both the Air Bag and horn electrical connectors in sequence. Both the upper and lower parts of the steering column cover require the use of 2 engaging claws followed by screw tightness adjustments of 3 screws. The clock spring needs to be centered by counterclockwise rotation until it locks followed by clockwise rotation 2.5 times until the center marks line up. The installation should begin with connecting the steering wheel assembly where horn and Air Bag connectors must be properly linked along with correct color alignment between the Air Bag connector and steering pad assembly and secure button locking. Secure the steering pad by applying torque of 8.8 Nm (90 kgf-cm, 78 in-lbf) with a "Torx" T30 socket wrench to the 2 bolts. Complete the task by attaching the cable to the negative terminal of the battery using 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) while making sure the SRS warning light shows no signs of malfunction.
