2007 Toyota Tundra Control Arm Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the front lower Control Arm on 2007 Toyota Tundra?
A: The servicing process of front lower suspension arm starts with removing both front wheel components and front stabilizer link assembly from the left-hand side. To start servicing the front lower suspension arm remove the front shock absorber coil spring connection by separating the nut and bolt then move onto the front lower ball joint attachment by disrupting its two bolts. Mark the No. 2 camber adjusting cam and No. 2 toe adjusting plate of the front No. 1 suspension arm sub-assembly lower LH before removing its bottom-left component nut and washer followed by the No. 2 camber adjusting cam, camber adjusting cam assembly, front No. 1 suspension arm lower LH, bolt, toe adjusting cam, and No. 2 toe adjusting plate. The removal process starts with taking out the cotter pin and nut from the front lower ball joint attachment before using Special Service Tool: 09628-00011 for attachment separation. One must use a chisel and hammer to pry front No. 1 lower arm bush LH outward before removing it with tool set 09950-40011 (09951-04010, 09952-04010, 09953-04020, 09954-04010, 09955-04011, 09957-04010, 09958-04011), 09950-60010, 09951-00540. Use the identical tools to perform this same operation on the front No. 2 lower arm bush LH. Take off the front No. 1 spring bumper LH from the car. You should check the front No. 1 suspension arm lower sub-assembly LH by moving its ball joint stud back and forth five times before installing the nut then measure it with a torque wrench on the fifth turn to ensure 3.0 to 10.0 Nm (31 to 102 kgf-cm, 27 to 89 inch lbs.) torque reading while also inspecting for dust cover cracks and grease leaks. Reassembly requires installing the 31 Nm (316 kgf-cm, 23 ft. lbs.) torqued front No. 1 spring bumper LH followed by using Special Service Tool: 09710-26011 (09710-05081) and a press tool to press in the front No. 2 lower arm LH with the bush positioning protrusions perpendicular to the lower arm. Use Special Service Tool: 09223-00010, 09612-30012 and a press to press in a new bush for the front No. 1 lower arm. Use the front lower ball joint attachment LH together with its nut and new cotter pin while tightening to 167 Nm (1703 kgf-cm, 123 ft. lbs.) but ensure both cotter pin holes are properly oriented. Secure the front No. 1 suspension arm lower sub-assembly LH by joining its matchmarks and putting in the required components. Install the front lower ball joint attachment LH onto the steering knuckle by using two bolts that should be tightened to 300 Nm torque (3059 kgf-cm, 221 ft. lbs.). After that, proceed with connecting the front shock absorber with coil spring LH through its bolt and nut. First install the front stabilizer link assembly LH on the vehicle followed by lowering it down while using the suspension stabilizer method through multiple press-downs. Tighten both bolts on the front No. 1 suspension arm lower sub-assembly LH and its associated nuts to 280 Nm (2855 kgf-cm, 207 ft. lbs.) before securing the front shock absorber with coil spring nut at 195 Nm (1988 kgf-cm, 144 ft. lbs.). The front wheel installation procedure ends with torqueing aluminum wheels to 131 Nm (1336 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.) and steel wheels to 209 Nm (2131 kgf-cm, 154 ft. lbs.). Also perform a check and adjustment of the front wheel alignment.
