2007 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear leaf spring on 2007 Toyota Tundra?
A: Your first step in servicing and repairing a rear leaf spring should be to use safety stands to support the car body and drop the axle housing so leaf spring tension becomes loose. The first step involves removing the spare tire and rear wheel followed by disconnecting the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly with the removal of its 3 bolts. The service begins by supporting the rear axle housing with a jack and a wooden block to protect the components from harm followed by bolt and nut removal of the rear shock absorber assembly LH. Separate the rear spring U bolt by unfastening its 4 nuts and 4 washers plus spring seat before eliminating the 2 U bolts. To disassemble the rear spring assembly LH, remove first the rear spring bumper sub-assembly followed by removing the nut, washer, and bolt from the front side and the 2 nuts, 2 washers, shackle outer plate, No. 2 spring shackle plate, and leaf spring from the rear side. A brass bar combined with a hammer extracts the tube from the frame before the frame receives its 2 rear spring shackle bushes removal procedure. Begin bush disassembly by applying marks at the front side of the vehicle then use the bush openings to position the leaf spring and push out the bushes on both sides through Special Service Tool: 09950-60010 (09951-00350), 09950-70010 (09951-07150). The leaf spring installation requires new bush placement at its opening while keeping the matchmarks aligned before pressing the bushes in using Special Service Tool: 09710-28012 (09710-07062), 09710-30041 (09710-03211). Install both shackle bushes into the frame while also placing the tube against the bush before completing a temporary installation of the rear spring assembly LH with required parts. The installation process starts with mounting the rear spring bumper and fastening a temporary rear spring U bolt but requires proper nut sequence order plus equal U bolt length assessment. Secure the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly using specified torques for each bolt according to specifications. After stabilizing the suspension by lowering the vehicle and performing several pressing maneuvers, tighten both the rear spring assembly LH and rear spring U bolt to their specified torque values. To complete the task you should install the rear wheel followed by the spare tire before removing safety stands.
