2007 Toyota Tundra Sway Bar Kit Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the front Sway Bar Kit on 2007 Toyota Tundra?
A: The front wheel must be removed before starting service or repair activities on the front sway bar kit. You must first disconnect the front sway bar link assembly on the left-hand side by taking out the bolt and nut and sway bar link. If the ball joint moves with the nut, attach a 6 mm hexagon wrench to stabilize the stud. Follow the same steps to service the right-hand part of the sway bar kit. The front sway bar kit service starts by detaching all 6 bolts which secure the brackets until you remove the bar together with its associated brackets and cushions. Uninstall front No. 1 sway bar bush by extracting the 2 bushes present on the front sway bar kit. Before inspection of left-hand sway bar link assembly bolt down the nut then move the ball joint stud backward and forward 5 times. The continuous operation of the torque wrench should take 2 to 3 seconds on each turn to measure torque on the fifth turn against a standard range of 0.5 to 3.4 Nm (5.1 to 36 kgf-cm, 4.4 to 30 inch lbs.); check the toe control front suspension link for replacement if readings fall outside this range. The inspection must include checking for degradation or grease escape through the dust boot mechanism. Fit the 2 bushes against the bush stoppers on the front sway bar kit outer section where the cut and bump of each bush should point forward. Secure the front sway bar kit temporarily by placing 4 bolts and sway bar brackets on both sides before torquing the bolts to 69 Nm (704 kgf-cm, 51 ft. lbs.). The front sway bar link assembly on the left-hand side needs temporary installation using its nut and bolt while tightening the nut with 150 Nm (1530 kgf-cm, 111 ft. lbs.). Perform this step also on the right-hand side. Lift the vehicle and perform several suspension presses down before tightening the left-hand sway bar link assembly bolt to 120 Nm (1224 kgf-cm, 89 ft. lbs.) and then repeat the same procedure for tightening the right-hand side bolt. After installing the front wheel you must finish the installation with aluminum wheel torque at 131 Nm (1336 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.) while steel wheel torque reaches 209 Nm (2131 kgf-cm, 154 ft. lbs.).
