2007 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2007 Toyota Highlander?
A: Service and repair of the engine rear oil seal starts with automatic transaxle assembly removal but engine assembly removal with transaxle must be completed before the automatic transaxle removal. Before servicing the engine rear oil seal initiate the removal process by fixing the crankshaft with Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021. Subsequently disassemble the 8 bolts and remove the rear spacer and drive plate with front spacer. Circling the engine rear oil seal lip requires a knife before you can extract the oil seal by inserting a screwdriver with taped tip. Run a damage check on the crankshaft following removal before sanding its surface with 400-grit sandpaper when required. New oil seals receive a coating of MP grease which should remain foreign-free before installation by using Special Service Tool: 09223-15030, 09950-70010 (09951-07100) together with a hammer to tap in the oil seal until its surface reaches equality with the rear oil seal retainer edge before wiping off excessive grease from the crankshaft. Proceed with drive plate and ring gear subassembly installation by using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 to refit the crankshaft followed by a cleaning procedure and subsequent adhesive application to the bolt using Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324, or equivalent on 2 or 3 bolt thread sections before assembling the front spacer, drive plate, and rear spacer with 8 bolts tightened to 98 Nm (1,000 kgf-cm, 72 ft. lbs. torque). To complete the process install the automatic transaxle assembly back into its place.
