The procedure to remove the front crankshaft oil seal on 1AR-FE engines begins with removing the right-hand front wheel followed by the No.1 engine under cover, the right-hand front fender moulding sub-assembly and front fender liner RH and front fender apron seal RH. Start by removing the V-ribbed belt followed by using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft pulley before loosening the pulley bolt until it engages 2 or 3 threads with the crankshaft. Apply lubricant to the threads and end of Special Service Tools 09950-50013 09951-05010 then use this tool together with the pulley bolt to uninstall the crankshaft pulley before the operation begins. The oil seal on the timing chain cover can be pulled out safely with a screwdriver which should be taped to protect the crankshaft and oil seal press fit hole.

How to install the front Crankshaft Seal on Toyota Highlander?

You need to lubricate the lip of a fresh oil seal with MP grease before installing it onto the 2GR-FE engine front crankshaft. Install the oil seal through Special Service Tool: 09223-22010 09506-35010 and 09213-70020. Apply gentle blows with a hammer to push the seal until it reaches timing chain cover edge. Keep the seal lip clean from contamination while avoiding any angled strikes. Slide the pulley onto position after aligning its key with the corresponding groove in the crankshaft pulley. Apply Special Service Tools 09213-70011 and 09213-70020 to install the pulley bolt while tightening it to 250 Nm (2550 kgf-cm, 184 ft-lbf) using Special Service Tool 09330-00021. The installation process requires the V-ribbed belt followed by the front fender apron seal RH and then the front fender liner RH until the front fender moulding sub-assembly RH is fitted. Install the under cover for the No. 1 engine before installing the engine under cover assembly. Attach the front right wheel with a final torque figure of 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf).
