2006 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the front crankshaft seal on 2006 Toyota Highlander?
A: Service and repair of the front crankshaft seal requires uninstalling these components from their placements: the front wheel RH, front fender splash shield front RH, front fender apron seal RH, engine cover sub-assembly No. 1, engine mounting stay No. 2 RH, engine moving control rod with bracket, and engine mounting bracket No. 2 RH. Begin by taking off the fan and generator V belt after which you should detach the crankshaft pulley. The removal of the timing gear case and timing chain case oil seal requires Special Service Tool: 09308-10010, 09950-60010 (09951-00200). For new oil seal installation apply MP grease onto its lip and maintain a foreign material-free area while using Special Service Tool: 09223-22010 adapted to a hammer to drive the oil seal until its surface meets the rear oil seal retainer edge followed by wrenching off residual grease from the crankshaft. Set up the components for installation which include the timing gear case or timing chain case oil seal in addition to the crankshaft pulley and fan and generator V belt. Use a torque wrench to install the engine mounting bracket No. 2 RH at 52 Nm before adding 64 Nm torque to engine mounting stay No. 2 RH and finally installing the engine moving control rod with bracket. As the conclusion reinstall the front wheel RH and meticulously check for any engine oil leaks.
