2007 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the front lower ball joint on 2007 Toyota Avalon?
A: Start the front lower ball joint service and repair by using Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 to remove the front wheel along with the front axle hub LH nut. The procedure starts with separating the speed sensor front LH before taking out the front disc brake caliper assembly LH and moving ahead to remove the disc wheel. As next step, use Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to separate the tie rod assembly LH and then detach the front lower suspension arm. The front axle assembly LH requires removal before proceeding to separate the lower ball joint assembly front LH by extracting the cotter pin and castle nut while using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 for this procedure. Secure the lower ball joint assembly front LH in a vise while attaching the nut to the stud bolt before flipping the ball joint multiple times back and forth at least five times for inspection. The torque wrench should be used to maintain a continuous movement between 3 to 5 seconds while measuring torque at the 5th turn. The correct torque reading should fall within 0.98 to 3.43 N m (10 to 35 kgf cm, 8.7 to 30 in. lbf); otherwise the lower ball joint assembly must be replaced. The installation requires attaching the lower ball joint assembly front LH to the steering knuckle with a castle nut at 123 N m (1,250 kgf cm, 91 ft. lbf) while installing a new cotter pin and tightening the nut up to 60 degrees if the cotter pin holes have misalignment. The installation involves combining the front axle assembly LH with the front lower suspension arm followed by tie rod assembly LH then disc wheel and front disc brake caliper assembly LH and speed sensor front LH together with the front axle hub LH nut. The procedure concludes by installing the front wheel with a torque of 103 N m (1,050 kgf cm, 76 ft. lbf) while performing front wheel alignment checks alongside a speed sensor signal inspection.
