2007 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the side Air Bag sensor on the LH side on 2007 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Service on the LH side Air Bag sensor requires reading all information from the Restraint Systems Service Precautions before beginning work. The side Air Bag deployment must be prevented by disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable for 90 seconds. The service requires removing front and rear door scuff plates and front and rear door opening trim Weather Strips as well as lap belt outer anchor cover and center pillar garnish lower. Serviceable components first include the removal of the front seat outer belt assembly alongside the side Air Bag sensor LH by installing a 2 nut release followed by connector disconnection. The installation process begins only when the ignition switch is off and the battery negative terminal remains unconnected for minimum 90 seconds. Secure the side Air Bag sensor LH using its 2 nuts which should be tightened to 17.5 N.m (179 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf). Replace the sensor if it suffers damage or if detector has hit anything. Examine that the SRS wires avoid contact with other components while ensuring no loose connections exist before reattachment of the connector to the side Air Bag sensor LH. Complete the reinstall process by replacing the front seat outer belt assembly and center pillar garnish lower followed by lap belt outer anchor cover installation and rear and front door opening trim Weather Strips installation. The door scuff plates must be installed before reattaching the cable to the negative battery terminal. The inspection of the SRS warning light concludes the inspection process.
