2007 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear lower control arm on 2007 Scion tC?
A: Start the process of servicing or repairing the rear lower control arm by taking out the wheel from the rear position. The lower control arm LH must have its support on suspension arm No. 1 while the bolt needs removal to separate the arm from the suspension member. Detaching the lower control arm LH from the axle carrier LH requires removal of clip and nut followed by tool usage of Special Service Tool: 09610-20012 to prevent damaging the dust cover. Before attaching the nut to the ball joint stud you should move the stud back and forth in five cycles for inspection. Turn the nut using a torque wrench during 2 to 4 seconds per rotation until you reach the fifth turn that requires a standard 3.5 Nm (36 kgf-cm, 31 inch lbs.) torque value. Check the lower control arm LH for signs of unusual drag combined with rattle, cracks, and dust cover grease leakage while examining its deformation. When installing the lower control arm position it first to the rear suspension member then secure the bolt before tightening the nut to 105 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.) and injecting the clip into the holes through the rear side of the vehicle. Make sure to adjust clip hole placement by tightening the nut properly when needed while maintaining the clip angle under 60 degrees. Refer to the torques listed below for wheel installation before stabilizing the suspension and tightening the control arm bolt to 115 Nm (1,170 kgf-cm, 85 ft. lbs.). Wheel alignment testing should be performed to finalize the inspection process.
