2006 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the front center Seat Belt for bench seat types on 2006 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The first step for servicing front center seat outer belts which use bench seats is to remove the back panel trim cover through disassembly of 6 side claws. Start by removing the back panel upper garnish together with the seat belt retractor cover through 4 clip disengagement. Start with removing the rear center seat outer belt assembly by unfastening its 2 bolts and shoulder anchor then the 2 bolts and retractor. Detach the seat belt bracket when you remove its two bolts before separating the tether anchor bracket sub-assembly using two more bolts. To install the tether anchor bracket sub-assembly begin by setting the claw into the body hole followed by tightening bolt A and bolt B to 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). The seat belt bracket can be installed with the two bolts tightened to 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). A proper retractor lock needs the rear seat shoulder belt guide to be set between 45 degrees and not locking at 15 degrees or less. Fit the lower stay of the retractor through both hooks of the seat belt bracket and secure bolt A to 8.5 N.m (85 kgf.cm, 75 in.lbf) and bolt B to 42 N.m (430 kgf.cm, 31 in.lbf). Check the ELR lock of the shoulder anchor and its 2 bolts by performing a quick pull test of the belt after torquing both bolts to 42 N.m (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf). Conclude installation by securing the 4 clips of the seat belt retractor cover then connecting the back panel upper garnish and the back panel trim cover through its 6 claws on each side.
