2006 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the front Sway Bar Kit on 2006 Toyota Solara?
A: Service and repair of the front sway bar kit starts with removing the front wheel and moving on to separate the front sway bar link assembly LH by removing its 2 nuts while using a hexagon wrench to stabilize the stud when the ball joint moves with the nut. You should perform the identical front sway bar link assembly RH service procedure that you did for the LH link. Begin by removing the front sway bar bracket No.1 LH through bolting its 2 bolts then proceed with the front sway bar bracket No.1 RH. Both tie rod assemblies require disconnect according to the same protocol. Separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly with Special Service Tool 09628-62011 before disconnecting the steering gear outlet return tube together with the pressure feed tube assembly. First remove the rack & pinion power steering gear assembly then the front sway bar bush No.1 can be removed after taking off the 2 bushes from the sway bar kit which leads to the removal of the sway bar kit front from the vehicle. Lay the front sway bar link assembly LH in a vise while installing the stud bolt nut and then move the ball joint five times or more in each direction. Apply 2 to 4 seconds of continuous nut turning using a torque wrench and measure torque on the 5th turn to verify its reading falls within the range of 0.05 to 1.96 Nm (0.5 to 20 kgf-cm, 0.4 to 17.4 ft. lbs.); otherwise replace the front sway bar link assembly. Start with front sway bar kit installation on the vehicle followed by front sway bar bush No.1 and position its cutout toward the rear side during installation. Begin installation at the rack & pinion power steering gear assembly then add the pressure feed tube assembly along with the steering gear outlet return tube and the steering intermediate shaft assembly. The installation of the tie rod assembly should follow identical procedures while working on both the left-hand side and right-hand side. Fasten the front sway bar bracket No.1 LH with two bolts that need 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs. torque) followed by same installation of the front sway bar bracket No.1 RH. Security-torque the front sway bar link assembly LH using 2 nuts followed by the application of 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.) with possible utilization of a hexagon (6 mm) wrench before repeating the procedure for the front sway bar link assembly RH. The front wheel needs to be installed with a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) then bleeding power steering fluid before checking for leaks to finish by inspecting and adjusting steering wheel center point along with front wheel alignment adjustment.
