2006 Toyota Sienna Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to service the rear shock absorber on 2006 Toyota Sienna?
A: The service procedure begins with removing the rear wheel and the rear shock absorber cap LH while also removing the shock absorber head cover together with the cap itself. Use the 6mm hexagon wrench to stabilize the piston rod before loosening the lock nut under guidance of the jack supporting the rear axle beam. The servicing procedure starts by removing the rear shock absorber LH cushion retainer and rear shock absorber cushion No.1 while also removing the nut and cushion retainer and shock absorber assembly rear LH. Detach the rear spring bumper No.1 LH from the shock absorber assembly rear LH. A proper shock absorber inspection requires depressing the shock absorber rod before pulling it upward to listen for abnormal sounds or resistance since any findings indicate shock absorber replacement. Install the rear spring bumper No.1 LH on the shock absorber assembly LH while using a jack to support the rear axle beam assembly before putting the rear shock absorber assembly rear LH and its cushion retainer and nut to the rear axle beam. Install the rear shock absorber cushion No.1 and rear shock absorber LH cushion retainer and fasten a new lock nut before completely tightening it to a 6 mm hexagon wrench torque of 30 Nm (310 kg-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). The installation sequence continues with the rear shock absorber cap LH and shock absorber head cover and ends with installation of the rear wheel that requires torquing the fastener to 103 Nm (1,050 kg-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Tighten the rear shock absorber assembly LH with full torque to 115 Nm (1,173 kg-cm, 85 ft. lbs.) by stabilizing it and use a jack to support the rear axle beam once stabilizing it if needed while filling the compartment with 90 kg (198 lb) before nut tightening. Check the alignment of the rear wheels as the last step. You should fully stretch the shock absorber rod before placing a hole within the cylinder to evacuate gas inside but exercise caution against flying pieces since the discharged gas has no odor or color and is harmless. The shock absorber measures 2WD drive type: 234 mm (9.22 inch) in length and 4WD drive type: 258 mm (10.16 inch).
